These are some tough times, there are many changes, many unknowns and many peaks and valleys. However, most of the world is based online now and we here at #VSW have been looking at that as a positive. Many great companies hold various meetups and networking opportunities, not only are they super interesting but they are an awesome way to network and learn about new information that you might not know already. Okay, we do have to admit, the networking part is a little bit tricky now BUT nevertheless, we can still hear and see people through technology!
Now with so many incredible virtual meetups happening in the next couple months, how do you get the most out of them? Here are 3 tips to get you started!
Don’t get overwhelmed!
We know that there are so many virtual events happening, and we also know that you want to attend them all, am I right or am I right?! However, these virtual events can take up quite a bit of time, so if you pile on more than you can handle, you might end up feeling a bit overwhelmed and fatigued. Focus on your top 3. Also, don’t forget to look at the dates, if you can space them out in a way that suits you, you’ll have something to look forward to in the coming months!
Bring a friend!
Once you narrow down which virtual meetups you want to attend, start asking friends/colleagues if they want to attend with you. Plus, it’s a nice way to bond over a common interest or learn new things with each other. Having someone else (virtually) beside you will make you more engaged and more likely to talk about what you learned after the conference is over!
Turn on your video!
Okay, you’ve picked out which virtual conferences you want to attend, you’ve asked a colleague and a friend to attend with you, you’re all excited and the anticipation is killing you. Here’s my last tip: enter the meetup with video. You are much more likely to engage, talk to others and speak up in a video conference than if you were just on audio. This plays into networking and being social…virtually! Plus, it’s a great way to get dolled up and show your best self online!
Now that you have some tips and pointers from me, go plan your next virtual meetup and I hope to see you there!
