At Vancouver Startup Week, we’re all about bringing the community together. It’s what drives us to work towards building a week long schedule full of networking events, expert panels, hackathon and recruitment opportunities!

We recently got to sit down with Patricia and Andre, who are avid VSW attendees/volunteers and are now residing in Vancouver because they attended VSW two years ago.

Meet Patricia and Andre

Originally from Brazil, Patricia and Andre came out to Vancouver Startup Week as part of their travels. The both of them were involved in their local startup community and wanted to see what Vancouver had to offer.

Patricia was volunteering for one of our partnered events and really loved the environment and vibe of the community. “It was very fast paced and very much my style” said Patricia, “so after the event, I connected with their team on LinkedIn and that’s how I landed a job there.”

Patricia and Andre sold all of their belongings and packed what they had left into two suitcases and moved to Vancouver. Six weeks later, Patricia started her new job. Andre shortly got a job and is now the Product Marketing Manager at Riipen.

Having lived and worked in 20 different countries the couple felt Vancouver has a very welcoming culture, where they can meet people with the same passion and drive as them from all over the world.

If Patricia and Andre hadn’t taken a chance to come out to Vancouver Startup Week, they wouldn’t have met like-minded people who made their big move happen.
